Further Afield. Aeroflot. PlaneIt's a shame to live in Moscow and not take the chance to see some other parts of Russia. St Petersburg, just 1 hour's flight or 4 hours by express train, is a very popular destination for a weekend of sightseeing, shopping or just visiting friends. Another favourite destination amongst the Russians is Sochi, on the black sea, which is a 3 hour flight from Moscow. The Mediterranean temperatures attract the crowds all summer but it's particularly pleasant in late Spring and early Autumn when it's cooler in Moscow.

The Trans-Siberian train which runs from Moscow to Vladivostok on the far East of Russia is an epic journey which covers 9000km over 6 days. Find out more on Way To Russia

Moscow is so close to the rest of Europe and some great holiday destinations - It's great to hop on a 2.5 hour flight to Copenhagen for a weekend of shopping, or get to Egypt or Dubai in just over 4 hours for a quick dose of sunshine to break up the long winter months.

Moscow is also an excellent location for visiting other Eastern European cities such as Prague, Kiev, Tallin or Warsaw to name but a few. A lot of people make the most of their vacation time by planning it around the Russian Holidays to get a long weekend or extended break. See when the Public Holidays fall in Russia.
