Public Holidays
I love Moscow :: Main > General > Holidays
Russians love to celebrate and national holidays are a serious event! For the most important ones, such as New Year, Christmas, and the May holidays, the country literally shuts down - many shops close their doors (but not IKEA!), the streets are adorned with flags, and main roads are closed off for parades. Everyone gets the day off work, and if the holiday falls on a weekend, the Friday or Monday becomes a day off. Joining the crowds in Moscow city centre on Victory Day is certainly an experience not to be missed!
